EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Diane Hovey, Ph.D.
Dr. Hovey is the founder of the Family Institute for Creative Well-Being. Diane has a doctorate in Family Social Science from the University of Minnesota where she studied with leading experts in stress theory. Her research has given her depth and insight into how families manage the challenges of ongoing health conditions including disabilities and chronic illnesses. In addition to her education and research Diane's lived experience has shaped her direction and contributed to her understanding of the impact that life transforming health conditions can have on families. Her youngest child has a severe disability that is a continual source of insight and inspiration.
Through her work with the Family Institute Dr. Hovey sees a significant need for families to address stress, grief, loss, guilt, isolation and the "whys" that impede their abilities to navigate uncharted territories. She uses a variety of forms of creative expression with families as a means to communicate and transform lived experience in a way that builds family well-being and community understanding. As one of the family participants said, this is immeasurable order in chaos!
